        Trip Itinerary

*Accommodations are subject to availability; equivalent alternative lodging will be suggested if indicated lodging is not available on desired dates.

You will fly into either Narita International Airport or Haneda International Airport. Grab your stuff and take the Limousine Bus to Tokyo Station. The hotel for the evening, the Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi*, is a short walk away. After you check in, set out for a bite to eat and/or relax after a long journey.

        Early Morning Excursion (Optional)
Jet lag may have you wide awake at 3:00/4:00 a.m. If you are feeling active enough, one way to make great use of this otherwise inconvenience is to visit Tokyo's famous fish market, which is a quick taxi ride away from the hotel.

        Walking Tour of Tokyo
Absorb the feel and pace of Japan's capital city with a walking (and Metro) tour with your guide. Starting with a walk through Tokyo Station's historic building, head toward the Imperial Palace grounds. Following will be a quick metro ride to Tokyo's largest shrine, Meiji Jingu, followed by a walk down Tokyo's Champs de Lysee, Omotesando. From there, you will take the Metro to Asakusa. In Asakusa, you will tour an older part of Tokyo, centered on the Senso-ji Temple complex and classic shopping arcades. From Asakusa, you will head back to Tokyo Station to pick up your bags.

        Transfer to Nozawa Onsen
Once you retrieve your luggage, take a short walk over to Tokyo Station. Ride on the famed bullet train to Nagano station. At Nagano station, you will pick up your pre-arranged car rental and drive to Ryokan Sayaka* (D,B). The first of your traditional Ryokan stays, Ryokan Sayaka is situated within the central Nozawa Onsen village grounds known for its famed onsen resort.

Extending from the top to the foot of Mt. Kenashi (1,650m), Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort boasts an altitude differential of 1,085 meters and a total ski slope area of 297 hectares. The resort ranks among the very top in Japan in terms of size, its history and snow quality.

Stay a second night at Ryokan Sayaka (D, B).

Enjoy a second day of skiing at Nozawa Onsen resort.

After your day of skiing, you will transfer to Hoshino Kai resort (D, B).

KAI Alps is a hot spring ryokan situated by Omachi Hot Spring in northern Nagano—the gateway to the northern Japanese Alps. Classical Japanese architectural elements provide comfort even during heavy snow, making it a perfect place which to experience Nagano's countryside, the nature of the Alps and the ski slopes of nearby Hakuba.

Enjoy skiing the Hakuba Valley for the next 3 days.

Hakuba Valley is located at the northern end of the spectacular Japan Alps. The resort spreads about 30km from north to south, including 11 individual unique ski resorts you can explore. In winter, the seasonal winds brings annual snowfall of 11 meters. There are free shuttles that can take you to the various resorts. In the evening you will spend the night at Hoshino Kai Alps resorts (D, B).

Enjoy another day of skiing at Hakuba Valley before you transfer to Nikko.

After your day of skiing, gather your belongings and drive to Nagano station. Hop on the bullet train to Utsunomiya station. There you will take a pre-arranged rental car and drive to Nikko.

Your lodging of the night is Hoshino Kai Nikko* (D, B). KAI Nikko is a hot spring ryokan situated beside the serene Lake Chuzenji. Semi-private dining booths and cedar-lined baths are among the comforts guests can expect at this palatial establishment, which offers easy access to historic and natural sights, like the Tosho-gu temple in Nikko and Kegon Falls.

After breakfast and checkout, visit Toshogu on a self-guided tour.

Toshogu, the Edo period Shogun's summer retreat is a forested complex of towering trees, elegant buildings and gardens. Wander through the grounds of this massive complex to absorb history dating back to the 17th century and one of Japan's most celebrated leaders.

Afterwards, you will drop off the car at Nikko and take the bullet train to Shin-Aomori. A hotel shuttle will be waiting for you to take you to the evening's lodging, Sukayu Onsen* (D,B).

Sukayu Onsen has over 300 years of history and is one of Japan's remaining mixed gender hot spring baths (there are single gender baths available as well). The rooms are traditional Japanese style with futons on tatami, and the meals are assemblages of classic Japanese cuisine.

Enjoy 3 days of guided skiing at Hakkoda.

On day 11, your guide will accompany you as you head north via train from Aomori to Hakodate, the first major city once you cross into Hokkaido Island. Your guide will then drive you to the ryokan.

Your lodging for the night is Borou Noguchi Hakodate Ryokan*. Situated in the Hakodate Yunokawa Onsen district with over 350 years of history, enjoy Japan’s premier onsen, the Hakodate delicacies, and the atmosphere of Hakodate. The hotel itself is a blend of modern and traditional which together offer a dramatic luxury stay and extraordinary experience for you.

After checking out, you will make your way to the Hakodate Airport where you will take a short flight to New Chitose Airport. There a guide will be waiting for you to transfer to the local Okadama Airport where you will take another short flight to Rishiri Island.

From the airport on Rishiri, you will be transported to your lodging for the next three nights, the Pension Rera Mosir*.

Depending on the conditions, you and your guide will explore the dormant volcano’s many ski options. Each day we will finish with a soak in the onsen and with traditional Japanese food.

Day 15 is a transfer day. Your guide will accompany you as you fly from Rishiri Airport to Okadama. From there your guide will drive you to Asahidake.

For the next two nights you will stay at the Hotel Bear Monte* (D,B).

Mount Asahidake is the tallest mountain in Hokkaido, situated in the center of the island. Accessed via the tramway, enjoy skiing down what is known by the indigenous people as "the garden where godsplay" with you, your guide and not much else.

On day 17, after your day of skiing your guide will drive you to your lodging of the evening, Kamihoroso*(D,B).

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up and take you on a guided ski day on the Tokachi Range.

Afterwards, your guide will drive you to Asahikawa station where you will take the train to Kutchan Station, near Niseko. A shuttle will be waiting for you to take you to the Freedom Inn*.

Niseko’s original Australian promoters put light, dry Japow on the international map. Niseko’s geographic fortune regularly delivers low moisture snow dust of remarkably consistent quality, out champagning Colorado at close to sea level. Enjoy plowing through, what has come to be known as Japow, to your hearts desire.

After your days on the slopes, explore the Niseko base areas. Niseko has one of the most dynamic apres ski economies with independent ski shops, restaurants ranging from food trucks and ramen shops to a growing variety of gourmet restaurants and Michelin-beknighted chefs. Don't forget to soak in the myriad of hot springs available throughout the area.

After checking out of your hotel, a private car will be waiting for you to take you to Lake Shikotsu and the last of the stops in this grand adventure.

The lodging for the evening is Mokunosho*(D,B). Nestled in the heart of Lake Shikotsu, Lake Shikotsu Tsuruga Resort Spa Mizu no Uta is known for its excellent service, elegant amentities and unforgettable food.

On the last day, after breakfast and checkout, There will be a private car waiting to transfer you to the New Chitose Airport. Take in one last breath of the pristine Hokkaido air as you start your journey back home.
